Why do I get myself into these stupid stupid situations?

Tue, Jul. 4th, 2006, 11:13 pm

I'm reading The Bell Jar. I'm scared. Esther is me, I am Esther. I'm going insane.

It's been a month and a half, I'm seeing someone else, and I'm pretty damn happy. Also, I turned 21, woohoo! Yeah...that's about it. So, here's my myspace page so you can all check me out.

I spend too much money working in a bookstore. I swear, I buy a book a day. Today is was this one:

"Peter Paddington is your typical thirteen-year-old paperboy with a few exceptions. He's 204 pounds, at the mercy of an overactive imagination, and his only friend is a trash-talking beauty queen reject from across the street. As if that wasn't bad enough, Peter's nipples pop out one day and begin speaking to him, threatening to expose his private fantasies to an unkind world. Peter knows that if he could just lose weight, develop a brand-new personality, and get rid of those pesky talking nipples, he'd be able to find the acceptance he desperately craves. But it isn't easy to change who you really are, and Peter, ready or not, is finally forced to confront his secret self."

How could I pass that up? Talking nipples are terribly hard to resist. I want someone to read just that sentence completely out of context.

On to other things: NetFlix is fun. If you haven't seen a movie called Rough Magic, you should. It's weird and good.

You know what's great? Getting a weekend off from work. You know what sucks? Going back to work after that. Also, working 2:30-11 on Black Friday is kinda shitastic as well. However, unlike the Brass, we have extra people coming in. Like, four extra people.

Okay, well, I have to open, so g'nite.

A brief summary of the last two weeks:

Work work work.

Oprah got something right: A Million Little Pieces is a good book.

I had a JaEson incident at my new job. A girl just stopped showing up to work one day. Guess who gets all her work? She was full time too.

Death Cab on Tuesday, woohoo. It's sold out, so I hope everyone got their tickets.

I get to open tomorrow. Hooray for getting out of work at 3:30 and having Saturday off.

The fair was boring. Good food, nothing much else though. Stopped at Zia on the way back and got The Honorary Title. Great band, a lot like Guster.

I miss the Brass every now and then. Only for like three seconds at a time, but still.

Saw Serenity and I am very sad that there is no more to see. I miss Mal and his naked ass. :(

I guess that is all. Time for sleep.

FireFly is an awesome show. Why the Hell did it get cancelled?

Oh, yes, I have this journal thing...

I have been working a lot. I've never had a full time job before, so even though I don't really go to school, it's still taking a lot out of me. It's weird to always work 8 hours everyday. The job is coming along fine though. It's just the little things (like we have to call for verification on any checks over $100) that I have to get used to. I did things a certain way for a year, so it's weird to do it differently.

So yeah, work, and reading a lot. It's nice to be able to check out hardcover books and get 30% off of everything in the store. Oh, and I get 50% off of Starbucks. A grande mocha Frappucino is $1.91, BWA HA HA!! I have had a frozen coffee a day everyday I work, and it only cost me like $10 a week. AND! I get 10% off at GameStop and Babbage's since B&N owns them, so new Evil Dead game, here I come!

That's about all. My dad is in Utah right now. I guess there's a store up there that was going to be closed but then got reopened at the last second, but everyone had quit already thinking there would be no more store. There's one actual employee, but everyone else is from somewhere else. So managers from all over the place are going and working like a week to get the store back up and going. So my dad left Saturday for Utah and won't be back until Wednesday. Well, maybe Thursday now since just today the only real employee quit. Bleh.

OOO, I got NetFlix! My mom and I are splitting the one where you get 3 movies at a time. It's cool, I get to see all these movies I've always wanted to see but not quite enough to rent them for $5. I'm watching the series FireFly right now, so I can go see the movie.

Yes, this is all that I can think of that is eventful. I am tired from working lots of hours, and early ones at that, plus I want to read too...The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon is a very good book. Okay, that is all. Goodnite chilluns.

PS - I love piano rock.

SO I got to work today bright and early at 7AM...and no one was there. I waited around for like half an hour and no one showed up. So, what did I do? I went home and went to sleep. I wasn't about to sit outside that building by myself and just wait for someone to show up...especially if it hit 9 and there were customers to get upset. I tried calling all morning, in case they just didn't hear me buzz to get in. I gave up, figuring someone would call when they showed up...it only takes me like 5 minutes to get there. No one called me until after 3PM.

This place is giving me a bad vibe. On Monday, a girl was supposed to be there at 8 and didn't show up until 10. This was treated like normal activity, not just for this one person, but like anyone could do it. And now this morning no one shows up at all. Only managers open the store, so someone important that gets paid well didn't show. No bueno.

Boo.
